The Hunger Games

Daniel and I saw The Hunger Games the other week. I thought it was a really good movie, so I'm even more excited to start on reading the trilogy since I always enjoy novels more than film adaptations.

Well my Easter break is officially over. It was back to uni for me today. I had a mid semester test too. Smack bang on the first day back, pretty cruel huh? But it's nice to get it over and done with.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there's another 'mid sem' sometime in the next month or so.

Also my collective haul post will be up sooner or later, things keep arriving in the mail so I thought I'd wait until everything some more things arrived before grouping it all together.

Easter

Sylvia had an Easter Party at her house on Saturday night, it was so good catching up with school friends. I can talk to them so easily, the familiarity of a group of people that I had shared so many memories with was something I missed.

I also watched Beetlejuice with Daniel the other day. I remember seeing parts of it on t.v. as a child and being scared. Turns out it's not scary at all but has a great storyline and actors.

I'll make a collective haul post soon! I'm trying to remember what I've bought over the past month or so. Something along the lines of, a stila kajal, eyelashes, a brow pencil, BB cream, oh and some books even if they're not related.

I finally started reading a book again today, The Meaning of Things by AC Grayling.

It's non-fictional novel about (and I quote the subtitle) 'applying philosophy to life'. And you should know I love books like this, although on the flipside fantasy and classic novels are my next favourite thing. The latter I can barely put down as I'm good at immersing myself in riveting storylines, while books like Grayling's are thought-provoking and actually elicit a sense of...enlightenment in me? As silly as that sounds.

A Vaguely Serious Post.

To love a thing means wanting it to live. - Confucius

I can't quite describe what's been going on with me personally. From an external observer my life couldn't seem more normal, if not bordering on dull. Yet somehow I've been experiencing a whirlwind of emotional turmoil. There's no one particular thing that set me off but rather an accumulation of all the stress and tension of little things over a long period time. Just thinking about it makes me head spin.

But it hasn't been good, and in the thick of it all my poor boyfriend has had to deal with unreasonable and intolerable me. I haven't been angry (or perhaps that's a matter of personal opinion), just easily provoke and extremely sensitive toward any ounce of criticism. Scratch that, I wasn't even being criticised but I took it upon myself to view everything as a criticism. For every minute I was happy, I could sink into a deep blue funk for the next few hours no matter what anyone said to me. In retrospect, it's obvious how much he tried to cheer me up but hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, ey? I knew I was being an emotional wreck for no good reason yet I couldn't pull myself out of it, I was being dragged into a deep, dark, abysmal hole of self pity, which was the most frustrating feeling and only served to further propel me into a even more hysterical state.

Despite this, Daniel managed to make everything better again in the end. He patched up broken ol' me. Just like always. How does he do it? Guess that's one secret I'll never tell (xoxo, Gossip Girl..oh my god I'm delirious). He saves me from myself (and I am my own worst enemy). And as I always say, I feel so lucky to have someone who will always be there for me, who will bear with me at my worst. Because at the end of the day how couldn't I feel relaxed when I have someone to curl up with and keep me warm.

Okay I should have stopped typing a long time ago because I can't take myself seriously right now and have a strange urge to throw in ridiculous references every few sentences.

More blog posts coming shortly,
Love Lisa.

Ps. I probably do not write in a grammatically correct manner as syntax has never been my strong point but bear with me.

Finally I Can Breathe

Hello dear readers, I hope you've all been well.

Rant about uni and the GAMSAT, if you don't want to hear about it skip the first few paragraphs.

Second year of uni has been unexpectedly tough. Our core (and therefore mandatory) subject, Molecular and Cellular Biomedicine, is worth 25 credit points (most subjects are worth 12.5). So most people in my course have 3 subjects this semester, while I have 2 since I did a subject over the summer. I think there's is quite the misconception that having only 2 subjects means I have no work. If anything I wish I could have chosen two separate 12.5 credit point subjects instead of our core, because having 7 lectures on the one subject per week is impossible for me to keep up with. The lecturers are relentless in dishing out slide after slide after slide of information on a daily or twice daily basis. To give you an idea, when I'm summarising a single lecture I can type up to 5 pages (including diagrams) and more than 1000 words.

Also on the 24th of March I completed the GAMSAT. For those who don't know, it's necessary to achieve a good result in the test to be able to go onto higher education in fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry and etc. The test was a total of 6 hours, we were told to arrive at 8.30am, the test did not start til 10.30am. We did not leave until 6.30pm...

Enough about the boring stuff.

The night of the GAMSAT, Pauline drove me to Gemma's 19th birthday after she finished work, which was held at her house. After our adventurous drive to Croydon, we truly appreciated how far Gemma had to travel to come to any of our houses or just the general vicinity of where we lived.

The 25th of March was my dad's birthday and we went out for dinner at a little Chinese restaurant in Kew. I forgot the name but I'll find out soon.

Daniel & I have been loving out pho from Mekong lately. We've had it a couple of times over the past few weeks. Yum yum yum, too bad the soup is probably laden with msg -.-

So I'm on my Easter break now until Monday week.
Just have to keep reminding myself to stay focussed and actually catch up with work during this time as I have a  mid semester test the first day back grrrrr.

Don't think I have any nice photos to post, but I'll definitely have some up in the next post,
Love Lisa.

Jenny and Pauline's 19th + Updates

Friday the 16th was Jenny and Pauline's birthday and they celebrated it at the Hilton, South Wharf.
They went clubbing afterwards but since I had recently recovered from being ill I decided to head home early and met up with Daniel and Crown.

Pauline and Jenny. Aren't they cute? (LOL at the tv..haha late night televison)

Jenny and I

Emily and I

Yesterday, I had delicious pho at MeKong on Swanston St with Daniel.
Granted the soup base is laden with msg, having it once in a while can't be too bad for me..right.
I ordered my favourite, Beef and Beef balls and I had a 3 colours drink too. Yum!

For the past 2 weeks, I've been trying to stay on top of my studies, it's going alright. I can't imagine how much I'd be struggling if I had to do another subject though. Lucky for me I'm underloading.
The day of the GAMSAT is also approaching, only 3 days to go. Eek.

Bad News, I'm Sick Again!! >_>

It's like as if my immune system doesn't function any more. It's bee about half a week since I felt recovered from my last cold/virus. Then Friday night it basically returned, with a vengeance :(

If you would like an update on my life, not much has been going on.
Uni has been pretty intense, I have less subjects than I had last semester. But our core subject is hard core. There's so much content and 6 lectures a week I don't know how everyone else seems to stay on top of it!

My Thoughts On Kony

My view from observing Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter, and reading the news + learning more about IC, over the past few days. I do not expect you to agree with me.

To any individual who is angry or annoyed that a cause they have been a long term supporter of has suddenly gained attention, should really look at themselves. What exactly are you feeling indignant about? This isn’t about you. If you truly supported the Invisible Children, you would be more than happy about the recent influx of support from the masses.

I will admit I do feel like some people are blindly supporting the cause, if all you did was watch the video then you have so much more to be informed on. I’m not going to lie, I learnt about the Invisible Children many years ago at high school, but besides feeling great sadness after seeing the plight of so many children, I failed to act and my concern was purely transient. However, seeing the KONY2012 video at a more mature age has made a much greater impact.

This is probably highly hypocritical of me to say, but if people are being so moved by the plight of the IC, and believe it is the most imminent and terrible crime against humanity. I cannot but call you ignorant. Children are suffering all over the world, and maybe instead of being shown a video before we are interested in helping, we should seek out causes, funds and organisations, and ways to help without having to be told to in the first place. Now that is showing true care.

Of course, this is an incredibly idyllist way of thinking but how about I put it down to something more simple and achievable. If you’re willing to purchase an action kit for the KONY2012 cause, then why not donate to charities supporting starving children? Give away $30 for nothing in return.

Also allow me to allude to the accusations that the Invisible Children have been misusing donations. Don’t just read the fact, ‘31% of the funds they receive actually go toward helping someone’ and then label IC as some treacherous, money laundering organisation that’s out to fool us all. Give a thought to the fact that yes, production costs are high, but with their videos they have amassed widespread support. This is besides the point, I’m not here to judge whether their use of money is right or wrong. I would just like to reiterate that if you do want to help make a change in the world there are also plenty of other organisations to look into.

Bringing this back to the main topic, the aim of the video created by IC is to make Joseph Kony and his crimes ‘famous’, so to speak. Whether it be through true care or people jumping on the ‘bandwagon’, as I’ve seen some put it, the fact remains the same. Bitch about it, hate it, never give another thought to it, love it or support it. Awareness is spreading, and that is the ultimate goal of KONY.

I’ve bored you all enough.

Love, Lisa.

For anyone who has no idea what I've just wrote a mini essay on, here is the video for your viewing pleasure:
