Earthquakes, Huxaburgers, Aka Tombo & Chapel

Why hi there lovely readers, allow me to recap since my last post up until the 21st of June.

Who else felt the Earthquake in Melbourne on June the 19th! It's the first one I have experienced as Australia generally does not experience earthquakes so to everyone who lived in the inner suburbs/west side I'm sure they only felt a rumble and slight shaking as I did, and if anything it was more exciting than scary. Though I'm sure it would have been a vastly difference experience for those at the epicentre (Moe, over 100km from where I live) as it was 5.3 in magnitude I believe, something around that.  Which, to anyone who lives in an earthquake ridden country, is probably nothing.

On the 21st of June, I met up with the lovely Sylvia for lunch at Huxtaburger on Smith Street. I'd never heard of the place until that day and damn were the burgers SO good. Perhaps I was particularly hungry as well. But the meat patty had a very distinct flavour but I'm not specialist on seasonings/herbs so I can't describe what it was. It was good, that's all you need to know.

The 21st was also the day of Tracey's birthday, so we all went to Aka Tombo on Greville St.

Tracey, myself and Jenny.

Sushi platter to share, complimentary of Tracey. Unfortunately, I, being the freak that doesn't eat sushi, could not share in everyone else's enjoyment. I did try the egg sushi thing on the platter. I'm not sure of what it was called but it was egg, with rice and a bit of seaweed to keep it together. I did, however, still pull off the seaweed ha. Must say that egg was really tasty, which means a lot since I generally don't like egg unless its scrambled and extremely fried.

My Chicken Teriyaki

Tracey's Wagyu Beef.

After eating and dessert (which I thought I had pictures off, I'll have to go look for them). We headed off to Lucky Coq on Chapel to celebrate (for want of a better word) Pauline's month long trip in Europe which she is now currently undertaking. The best part of the night was when Daniel turned up unexpectedly at Lucky Coq. Initially I was annoyed because he had ignored my texts for the past 3 hours, or, he says he doesn't look at his phone (excuses excuses -__-).

When I was with Sylvia I had planned on leaving a short while after getting to Lucky Coq but perhaps it was a mixture of me being excited to see Daniel and me just generally having more energy at night. That I decided to go to One Six One with everyone. Got back home around 1.30am so not too late at all.

That was one of the most eventful days I've had in a long time. It was nice seeing all my high school friends again but also Lucky Coq and One Six One seems to be the place of choice to go on a Thursday night so I also happened to see people from high school that were in different year levels. That was probably something I would have liked to avoid because these are people who know who I am and I know who they are but we've basically never spoken so it's not like we're going to start out of no where now. I can be incredibly socially awkward.

That's all for now, there will be another post in one or 2 days.

Survived Exams

I know it might not seem like much, having had only 3 exams. But this whole year has drained me far more than last year. Well, I guess I shouldn't expect anything to get easier, but I feel like again, there was a sudden unexpected jump in h ow much we were expected to know for exams. But I think I pulled through okay *knocks on wood*. Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself.

After not seeing Daniel after a week, he took me to Dessert Story on Swanston. Which, if you're asian and teenager/young adult, must have surely heard of. It's quite a popular chain of Hong Kong style desserts. We got a Pudding with 3 flavours, mango, chocolate and vanilla/coconut and a Basil Seed Soup with Green Tea Ice Cream. They were yum and very reasonably priced. Around $6 each. Compare this to Passionflower, another popular dessert place in the city, the average price for the most basic thing is around $15 :S

Ugh I feel incredibly listless and agitated. I need some directionality in my life right now. Something to work towards. I swear everything in life I've ever began, I've never fully completed. Guess that's my bad habit.

Goodbye Semester One

Can you believe today was the last day of uni for the semester? What on earthhh, how did the months pass by so quickly, its almost June for crying out loud!! Which also means I'm almost half way through my undergrad course..mind blown.

How cold was it today! The rain and the wind didn't make it any better. I think I do prefer cold whether over sweltering heat though. There's nothing better than cuddling up inside all warm and snug when you can hear the rain and wind lashing the windows. You can't ever feel cosy in summer, even if you're in an airconned room, it's just never the same.

Here was the state of the weather around 12.30pm, this is nothing compared to the afternoon. Terribly taken video I know, bear with me, my hands were blocks of ice. I think I want to take more videos in the future, if I don't feel too awkward filming in public. I don't even mean videos of myself, vlogs might happen one day or never, I dislike my voice to the highest degree.

I'm not one to gloat but we got the results of our second mid sem for MCB yesterday. And wow was a surprised. I got the exact same mark as I did in the first test. What are the chances?! Especially when I breezed through the first one (it was similar to the practise one) while the second one required a lot of mulling over each question and being very unsure of many of the questions.

But hey, I guess the 200+ (single sided) pages of notes I wrote paid off? Haa. My wrist screamed with pain after that week, no other way to describe it.

So now we have entered the time period known as SWOT Vac (Students without teachers...vacation?). Please tell me that's what the acronym stands for otherwise I've been making a fool of myself by telling everyone that.

Another thing to quickly point out, um I've been getting around 20 unique page views a day. Who are you mystery blog readers! Are you the same ones every day hoping I update my blog or are new people somehow stumbling across my chaotically written posts?

If you follow me on tumblr you would have already seen this. How awesome is this cat? A scottish fold if I'm not mistaken. All credits to the original owner, if only I could find out whose cat this is! So damn cute.

Study begins tonight. Not going to lie. I haven't been out on a Friday evening for months. Lack of social life, yes? Do I care, not so much. As long as I get to see Daniel my sanity will be kept in check.

The Avengers & Updates

Firstly, the happy news, I saw the Avengers with Daniel (well he's already seen it) last night at Century City Walk. I bought the tickets online and printed them off. The instructions clearly told me that I had to present them at the box office and sign the receipt etc. So to my annoyance when we arrived there was a massive queue. Eventually found out we just use the print off as our tickets, Daniel was pretty smug about that to say the least -3- Then we had some late night maccas nomnomnom (goodbye trying to eat healthy) and then I had head home since I had uni this morning.

Bear with me for a moment, I just need to reiterate how lucky I am to have Daniel. The past half year has been incredibly tumultuous for me. I'm not even sure exactly why since there was no particular thing/event that sparked it. Rather the accumulation of everything started bearing down on me mentally. Which led me to lash out at anyone and everyone. But at the end of the day, he's there with me, holding me and never letting go. And that's what brings me back.

Other updates:
I lost my student ID card, had it replaced today for..oh..ONLY $30!! As you can tell I'm very very frustrated by that since I never use my student ID, yet somehow it disappeared from my wallet never to be seen again. And since I learnt from when I 'lost' my debit card, I did thoroughly check through my wallet, bag and room. But alas, to no avail.

What else, had another mid sem for MCB last week. It was really quite hard but I think I did alright :S *knocks on wood*. Cannot believe exams are in less than 2 weeks, what the heck...half a year has passed me by.

Oh and GAMSAT results were released the other day. I did much better than I thought I'd do but obviously not that good compared to the smart cookies in my course. But hey, I'm not going to give it much more thought since I don't technically need it for anything.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that I probably won't be posting much if at all until exams are over.

Hope you have all been well,
Love Lisa.

I'm Getting Bad At This

Dear Readers,

I really do apologise that it seems as if I've almost abandoned my blog. I haven't. I promise.
Somehow I have 4 or so half written posts that I just don't have the motivation to ever complete (to my standards) and actually go about posting.

Life's just been getting me down lately. It's like every time things seem to be looking up, some has to go and ruin it. Yes, yes I know I don't have to let things ruin my day but when all the little things add up it just becomes inexplicably overwhelming. If I were to bring in a proverb here, I'm definitely experiencing a 'the straw that broke the camel's back' period in my life.

In addition to this, perhaps it's just because of my mood, or maybe I am actually physically exhausted/unfit (most definitely true), I just feel listless and lethargic 90% of the time. This includes a recent birthday I attended, where somehow I found myself half asleep on the couch using my coat as a blanket as other people are having animated conversations/dancing. Obviously I'm the life of the party these days -__-

I still haven't made a post about all the items I've recently bought, but I left my flash diffuser in my friend Tracey's car a week ago and now she is on placement (she's studying med) for 2 weeks so after that I'll take proper photos. Mhmm, I've become some snob with lighting. The pop-up flash is a no-go for blog photos and even using the external flash without a diffuser makes me cringe.

This post is way too negative. There has been very exciting news too, my lovely boyfriend bought me an Nintendo 3DS!! Am I spoilt or am I spoilt? Heh, :3

The Hunger Games

Daniel and I saw The Hunger Games the other week. I thought it was a really good movie, so I'm even more excited to start on reading the trilogy since I always enjoy novels more than film adaptations.

Well my Easter break is officially over. It was back to uni for me today. I had a mid semester test too. Smack bang on the first day back, pretty cruel huh? But it's nice to get it over and done with.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there's another 'mid sem' sometime in the next month or so.

Also my collective haul post will be up sooner or later, things keep arriving in the mail so I thought I'd wait until everything some more things arrived before grouping it all together.

Easter

Sylvia had an Easter Party at her house on Saturday night, it was so good catching up with school friends. I can talk to them so easily, the familiarity of a group of people that I had shared so many memories with was something I missed.

I also watched Beetlejuice with Daniel the other day. I remember seeing parts of it on t.v. as a child and being scared. Turns out it's not scary at all but has a great storyline and actors.

I'll make a collective haul post soon! I'm trying to remember what I've bought over the past month or so. Something along the lines of, a stila kajal, eyelashes, a brow pencil, BB cream, oh and some books even if they're not related.

I finally started reading a book again today, The Meaning of Things by AC Grayling.

It's non-fictional novel about (and I quote the subtitle) 'applying philosophy to life'. And you should know I love books like this, although on the flipside fantasy and classic novels are my next favourite thing. The latter I can barely put down as I'm good at immersing myself in riveting storylines, while books like Grayling's are thought-provoking and actually elicit a sense of...enlightenment in me? As silly as that sounds.
