Spring!

Good evening!

Okay so I'm a bit behind, it has been Spring for over a month now. But today it was a maximum temperature of 31 degrees! That's not all too common for Spring but any bets from tomorrow onwards it will be terrible rainy weather. Which always follows an irregularly hot day.

So my mid semester break flew by,and I was back at uni this week. Unfortunately, my break was also soured by the fact that I had a test this Wednesday. So more than half my break was spent trying to study and I thought since I had a whole 2 weeks, I could be very thorough with my revision. I was mistaken, when it came to the weekend before the test I was as stressed as ever and in fact, I seemed to be more behind than I had ever been trying to study for a test. Funny how that happens.

I suppose it went okay in the end, but there were at least 4 multiple choice questions, that I actually had zero idea which of the 4 options was right or wrong. And usually through elimination I can get down to the 2 possible answers, and I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right (but more often than not I get it wrong in that situation..why oh why)

I don't think I've blogged about any of my anatomy pracs thus far. I had my first one more than a month ago. And it wasn't as bad as I expected. We didn't lok at full cadavers, just sections of the body. Which made it a lot easier for me to deal with. But still I really felt distressed when I could see the faces of any cadavers. For example when the head was still attached to the thorax. I'm just not a person who deals with the idea of death very well. But I do find anatomy pracs a great learning experience. Must easier to see how everything functions and fits together than in a 2D image.

My exam timetable was also released during my break and for the first time since I started uni, I didn't have an exam in the first week! Shock horror. You might think that's a good thing, I get a whole week extra to study right? But, on the contrary, I need the pressure of knowing my exam is imminent to push me to study to my full potential. So more likely than not, SWOT Vac will not be utilised as effectively as I want. I'm really trying to remember how I studied in Year 12, where was my motivation for getting up at 7am on days that I didn't have school and studying for a good 10-12 hours in a day.

Well this turned out to be a boring post, I apologise. I don't do much else besides study these days. Haven't been able to find the balance yet over 2 years. But I suppose I don't really mind too much. As long as I get to spend time with Daniel, see some friends during uni. See school friends during the holidays.

Also just as a side note. My nails for maybe the past 3 months have not been cooperating with me. It started when I was standing on my chair/desk to take a birds eye view photo, when I inadvertently slipped off my desk and broke two nails! Also suffered bruises to my shin and hand, which I did not discover until a day later. So ever since those two nails broke, when they were almost grown to a normal length, another one broke. And this cycle has repeated every few weeks :/ And I don't want to cut down my other ones fully so that they're all stubby since I practically haven't done that in 10 years.

And I'm Back!

Apologies for my unintended hiatus. I think I must be horrible at balancing my social and academic life, while trying to find some room for down time.

Okay some updates:

Here's my hair the night after dyeing it

This is the colour I want my hair to always look like.

But in incandescent lighting it looks more like this, plus this is a photo taken more than 2 week after the one above, so it probably has faded to the more orange brown. A colour I do not like on myself in the least. I do plan on redyeing it in the near future and then using a different dye after that.

I turned 20 on the 14th August. I had a dinner with my family to celebrate, the usual. Daniel took my eat pho for lunch on the day at Mekong, yum yum yum. (the first photo in this post is from that day). Then on Friday the 31st of August I had dinner with Emily, Jenny, Tracey and Pauline at PekoPeko which was yum an affordable. Pauline drove us to Max Brenners and we gorged ourselves in an after dinner dessert. After which, we headed to the Boatbuilders Yard and was dropped home by Pauline. I actually think one of the funnest parts was just being crammed in the car with all my friends, reminded me of school some how.

Farewell Sylvia

Sylvia left for England last night.
I know I never saw her that often, especially after high school.
But knowing I can't physically see her for more than a year is painful. We became friends overnight on our Year 8 school camp and ever since then she's been an integral part of my life, as lame as that sounds.
Part of me wishes she didn't leave, the other part is happy for her because it's what she's always wanted and the other part of me could only hope to be as confident/independent as to live in another country by myself.

But I know I'm glad I went to give her a final (and surprise) goodbye before she was left for the airport.

Birthday Wishlist

• A tame male budgie, any colour but I think blue/white pied ones look nice, to befriend my current lonely budgie :(
  
• Ghost/glass shrimp for my fish tank, around 10-20 I'd say?
  

Just kidding it's not really what I want for my birthday. Rather, what I can't seem to find in Melbourne for a reasonable price. I know glass shrimp are numerous is lakes/rivers but I don't live near any nor am I the adventurous type. Help me out here.

I guess 1Q84 is on my real birthday wishlist and...a new camera/lens? I jest, like anyone would buy me that. When I really think about it I don't need anything, so hey if anyone does end up getting me something I'll be beyond amazed, even I can't think of what I want.

Scratch what I said earlier, NO ONE BUY ME IQ84! I just checked prices for it in Australia and it's just under $80 for the 3 books in one version. The exact same thing is $25 on bookdepository.com

Another year has passed by and how lucky I have been to be able to share it with my other half...the person that completes me.

Also got a haircut on Thursday and dyeing my hair tomorrow! Yes, it's finally happening.

Catching Fire

Freedom. Palpable yet just beyond my grasp.

It's been a frustrating few weeks. I've had many happy times that I could recount but on the flipside there's a horrible feeling I can't shake. The past few days have been particularly bad. It's just been one thing adding on top of the other relentlessly. God knows how I'd cope without Daniel.

The end of the day was always my favourite time to blog. But now I'm too drained to ever muster up the energy to begin a post.

I've booked in for a haircut next Thursday. I'll definitely blog about that since I'm quite excited. I'm bored of my hair, time to bring back the layers, maybe a little more fringe and I think I'll just let the hairdresser do whatever she thinks will suit my face, while still keeping my hair fairly long of course.

After that I am still determined to dye my hair before uni starts again. I need change in my life. The same old routine is driving me crazy.

Oh oh! I have finally, truly gotten back into reading again. I literally just finished Catching Fire, the second book in the Hunger Games Trilogy. And my oh my this is definitely one of my favourite series of books I've read so far. The storyline has been more unpredictable than most books which is what makes it so engrossing. The movie pales in comparison to the first book.

Also I haven't read any books with a similar theme, although I am sure there are many. I guess Nineteen Eighty Four had a vaguely familiar post apocalyptic, dystopic feel..it's probably incorrect of me to juxtapose one of George Orwell's novels to the Hunger Games since it's much darker and written in a completely different style, and is a different genre. But if you've read the books hopefully you can see the vague allusion I'm trying to make.

What amused me is that they put Stephanie Meyer's quotes saying how good the Hunger Games are on almost every book. After reading Twilight, can't say that her judgement in good literature is something I would go by.

Enough about that, going to start on the last book now. Goodnight!

Haul: Makeup, Perfume and Novels (Very Picture Heavy)

 A whole bunch of stuff I've bought since 3 or 4 months ago.

Skin79 Hot Pink Super Plus BB Cream. I was skeptical that the colour wouldn't match but it really does, so I must be a lot more paler than I was in the past. One thing, definitely not flash photography friendly, as are most spf containing products.



Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencil. This is my HG eye brow product. There's nothing I need more. I have it in shade grey brown and dark brown..I think. I bought these a very long while ago and use them almost daily.




Stila Eye Kohl in Topaz, perfect for the lower waterline, much more natural than using white.


I actually don't think I've blogged about this, I won one of those Youtube giveaways that beauty gurus always hold. I don't enter them too often maybe one every month or so. I won saaamage's (one of my favourite youtube gurus) giveaway and what I received is below. Unfortunately one of the Lorac eyeshadows was destroyed during delivery. The pink thing is a Sedona Lace kabuki, very dense and great quality. The Jewelmint bracelet is lovely but much too loose for my wrist I might sell it?

The Hunger Games Trilogy. Got these for a great deal on ebay about 2 months ago. I've only just started reading the first book today heh.




Nailtiques, I bought this for my mum since her nails have been very brittle and peeling lately. So far she thinks it has been living up to its reviews.


China Glaze haul that Michael brought back for me from America. They cost around $3-$4 each, even the cheapest places in Melbourne sell them for at least $6.


Unfortunately I had an ELF order that was meant to be delivered to Michael's apartment in New York. It never arrived :( Luckily they were very good about refunding me the full amount.
